Texans prepping rookie Deshaun Watson to start – Chron.com

The Texans are getting rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson ready for his first NFL start.

Watson took all of the snaps during the portion open to reporters Tuesday.

Sources not authorized to speak publicly said that as long as Watson’s injured right ankle responds well in practice, he’ll start Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Texans replaced Tom Savage at halftime during a 29-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Watson entered the game in the third quarter and completed 12 of 23 passes for 102 yards, one touchdown and one interception for a 60.4 passer rating. The first-round draft pick and national championship game winner from Clemson was sacked four times. Savage was sacked six times.

Watson is a first-round draft pick from Clemson, a consensus All-American and a national championship winner who won the Davey O’Brien and Manning awards last season.
