The City of Shenandoah and the Shenandoah Chamber and Industry Association are sponsoring the third annual Christmas tree-decorating contest in the city’s downtown green space at the corner of Blossom Street and Sheridan Avenue.
The Shenandoah Chamber and Industry Association is seeking organizations, businesses or families to decorate the trees as part of a contest to win chamber gift certificates. The city will provide the Christmas trees and lights to be set up Nov. 20.
Participants should contact the chamber in advance at 712-246-3455 or email chamber@shenandoahiowa.net. Each group will receive $15 in Chamber bucks to help offset decorating costs.
SCIA is offering gift certificates to the winners. First prize is $100, second is $75 and third place is $50.
“It’s a fun activity that enhances the enchanting downtown decorations and provides a wonderful Christmas setting for families to take photos,” SCIA Marketing Director Shelly Warner said.
Shenandoah’s Christmas theme for 2017 is “Hometown Christmas, Celebrate the Spirit of Giving.” Decorations may reflect the theme.
Sponsors ask that the trees be decorated by 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, the night the lights come on, and that decorations be firmly wired or tied to the tree to prevent them from blowing off.
There are 19 trees in all. Warner noted four of the trees have already been spoken for, leaving 15 available. Contact SCIA at 712-246-3455 with questions.
