Blog: Prepping For Wet Weather – WAVY-TV (blog)

We had the line of showers and storms move through yesterday evening as expected.

There were only a couple of damage reports on the Peninsula with some trees down near Tabb and James City County. For the rest of us, it was just some brief heavy rain and gusty winds.  These storms rolled southeast along a warm front.  Today that front is lifting north, and so we will be in the hot zone.

High pressure lies to our south.  It’s not too far away.  So we’ll have partly cloudy skies in the region.  It will be pretty hot and humid.  High temps will be near 90.  Dew points are in the mid 60s.  So an isolated shower or storm may pop up this afternoon or this evening.

Meanwhile we are watching the area of low pressure down near Florida.  This doesn’t look too organized, but there is a broad low down there that has brought some much needed rain to Florida and Georgia lately.

This area of scattered showers is likely going to move north over land and stay weak/broad.  However, the moisture around the low will extend farther north. There will be a persistent flow out of the south over the Southeast states.  This will pull up the deeper moisture into our region.

There will also be a front that will migrate north and south between Wednesday and Friday.  These could combine to create some heavy rain at times.  Between tomorrow and Saturday we could start to see 4, 5, 6, or possibly even more inches of rain.  Localized flooding will be possible, but luckily a lot of that rain will be spread out through time.  High temperatures will be in the 80s.  It will be very warm and soupy.  It will actually feel like mid-Summer.

We will continue to track this active weather.  Stay tuned for updates.
