Patrick Oehlschlager, General Manager, says they prep for storms beginning in the winter.
“We get into storm readiness in the winter,” Oehlschlager said. “When we have those months, you know, the snow is not so bad but when they start calling for ice accumulation. Then, we make sure we are in a state of heightened readiness. Then in the Spring, when the weather can be tumultuous. We are looking at tornadoes developing, or even just our Spring straight-line winds that are coming. Everything gets taken a look at.”
The linemen with OEC also go through regular training. They learn about new technology and skills to enhance their performance. Oehlschlager says their goal is to restore power as quickly as they can.
“They’ll perform the work as quickly as possible,” Oehlschlager said. “Because we want our members to have service, as quickly as possible.”

-Keep others away from down power lines
-Wait for first responders and linemen to arrive on the scene
“Just be patient,” Oehlschlager said. “Offer up prayers when necessary to just watch over our guys and make sure they are all safe.”
