BEREA — As expected, Josh Gordon returned to practice Monday as the Browns started their preparation for their season opening game against the Steelers on Sunday.

Last week, Hue Jackson said he expected Gordon to be at practice after ‘tweaking’ his hamstring getting ready to return to the field.

Gordon said he’s expecting a big season in 2018.

“Best yet,” Gordon said. “There is better to come, always better to come.”

Gordon caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards in 2013, despite missing two games to start the season due to suspension. He earned his only Pro Bowl appearance after that season.

Gordon, who is just 27-years old, thinks he’s ready for a big season. Despite missing all of training camp, he said it hasn’t affected his optimism for the season. “No, not at all.”

In regard to his status for the regular season opener, Gordon doesn’t feel the hamstring tightness that has prevented him from practicing this week or playing in the final preseason game will deter him from being ready for the regular season opener on Sept. 9 against the Steelers.

“No, not at all,” Gordon said last week. “These nice (pointing at practice) football fields back here is where all of the rust needs to be shaken out at.”

He doesn’t think the injury is a setback at all.

“Not much of a setback,” he said. “Not really frustrating. I have been through many other injuries just like it before. It does not take that long to bounce back from. It was nothing to really deter me from my motivation. I know that there is plenty of time and plenty of opportunity to showcase my abilities.”

Gordon said his focus is on the regular season.

“Yes. Week 1 regular season, that is my focus,” he said. “That is what I have been told to do. That is what I play on doing.”

Gordon said being in Berea for the entire offseason program was a big boost for him.

“It is huge to have that advantage of learning the playbook,” he said. “Being back now, it is almost as if I never left in knowing exactly what I need to do, where to be at. The plays are somewhat similar. The lingo and verbiage is really familiar. It has been easy to hop right back in and pick up right where I left off.”

Jackson said last week that Gordon would not start in the season opener, even if he’s 100 percent healthy.

“I have no hard emotions, feelings or thoughts about that,” he said. “That is up to him to decide. It is his team. He is the leader. I want to come in and help this team and organization win any way that I can. Any way that they seem fit to apply me or put me in this system, that is what I am going to do.”
