Texans starting offensive guard Zach Fulton hasn’t practiced all week due to ankle injury and is regarded as unlikely to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Signed to a four-year, $28 million contract in March, Fulton is one of the Texans’ better blockers.

Fulton would be replaced in the starting lineup by Greg Mancz, who started every game at center two seasons ago and was recently signed to a two-year, $6 million contract.

“He’s done it for us before,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “Center, guard, he’s really done everything we’ve asked him to do. Played a lot of football for us. Tough guy, very smart. Glad we have him.”

Fulton was noncommittal on whether he would play Sunday.

“Possibly,” he said when asked if he’ll play. “I’m feeling good, we’ll see what happens.”

With Fulton’s injury, the Texans would have a different offensive line configuration for the fifth time in seven games.

O’Brien downplayed the importance of having the same line each week.

“I think that’s a made-up myth, I really do,” O’Brien said. “I think the amount of time that these guys spend together, and also every team in the league – I guess I would say, tell me one team that doesn’t have an injury on the offensive line right now. There’s zero.

“That’s a myth that’s made up, because these guys do a really good job of communicating and they practice together a lot. There’s only like eight or nine of them, so there’s continuity. Of course, look, in a dream world, would you want all five guys to be healthy the whole way through? Certainly, but that is an absolute fantasy.”

Texans offensive line coach Mike Devlin emphasized that constant change across the line makes things more difficult. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been sacked 25 times and hit 66 times.

“Continuity is huge in offensive line,” Devlin said. “Guys get a feel for how Deshaun’s going to react, how each other are going to react, and that’s always a process. We’ve got young guys in there, so that learning process, that curve is always a huge emphasis.”

“Every year, building that continuity – we’ve, over the years, had a lot of turnover,” Devlin said. “Every year there’s that process. You’re on the money there. There’s no beating around the bush. It takes time. I’ve got to do a better job of accelerating some of these younger guys and hopefully, throughout the year, get them better.”

Mancz said he’s prepared to step in, if needed, against a challenging Jaguars front headlined by Calais Campbell.

“Every week, I try to prepare for all three spots,” Mancz said. “Zach is a great offensive lineman. They’re extremely talented and deep. I’m looking forward to the opportunity wherever I wind up going to have the chance to play against them.
