Genesee County Road Commission is getting ready for round two.

Genesee County plow drivers are gearing up for the next batch up snow to fall on Mid-Michigan.

“It’s been quick. A lot going on that’s for sure. It seems like it has been one day, a long day, and never-ending,” Genesee County Road Commission plow driver Larry Vanhorn said.

That day seems to be continuing with Vanhorn and his two other drivers.

They are laying down salt on east and westbound 69.
“Mentally I am getting tired,” Vanhorn said.

Larry and his team are nearing the end of their 12-hour shift.

As they put the final touches down on their route, Larry often takes a peek at one gauge on his counsel.

This way the crews know when the best time to treat the roads.

“We’ve used a lot more than we usually have in the past four or five years. This winter has been pretty rough on us. We are using more salt, but we still have an abundance left,” Genesee County Co-Manager and Director of the Road Commission Anthony Branch said



He says as the snow begins to fall that’s when drivers will see more of the plows scrapping the snow off the road.

“Blade all the snow off and apply another round of salt. This is kind of the process we go through during the storm to make the roads passable. It’s not going to make them clear, but it will make them safer and passable if everyone slows down,” Branch said.

Branch says there’ll be several drivers out after midnight.
When the clock strikes six a-m that’s when it’s all hands on deck with more than 60 drivers.

“Everybody if you have to go out just drive to the conditions and if you don’t have to go out stay in,” Branch said.
