BROOKINGS, S.D. (KSFY) – With the Lady Jacks playing in the Sweet Sixteen Friday night many fans across Brookings are prepping for their watch parties. Local sports bars and others all across the state are ready to see a Jackrabbit win.
Jacks fans were out in full force today getting ready for the big game. Many fans made it a point to where their familiar blue today.
The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits are getting ready to take on the Oregon Ducks Friday in the Sweet Sixteen and their fans back in Brookings are prepping to cheer them on to another history making win.
“We’re so excited that the Lady Jacks have made the Sweet Sixteen, 10 pm start for us but we plan on cheering them on tonight and we’re really excited to see them go on and win and we’d love to see them in the Elite Eight,” Jacks fan, Reece Kurtenbach said.
“Many of us have followed the Jacks our entire life and it’s so exciting we’ve seen the final four tournament, the NCAA tournament every year and it’s even more exciting when one of your favorite teams has made it so far,” Kurtenbach added.
Right on campus the SDSU Alumni Association will be hosting a watch party for anyone that wants to watch the game.
“You know we are known for outstanding basketball teams especially the women’s teams they have really done us proud. For them to go to the Sweet Sixteen I think for many of us it’s not a surprise. I think that they just really want this,” SDSU Director of Development for arts, humanities and social science, Rina Reynolds said.
The City of Brookings is electrified right now, going blue for the Jacks and eating the Ducks for dinner?
“We couldn’t be any more excited for the Jackrabbits to show up and you know what we even ate duck for lunch. Here we’re ready to take them out and there’s nothing better than being a Jackrabbit and in fact if you’re not already a jackrabbit com join us cause we’re ready for you,” Reynolds said.
Over at Cubby’s they’ve been dealing with huge crowds of people coming in to watch each round of the NCAA tournament and Friday they have standing room only since tables are fully reserved and booked.
“It’s going to be crazy. We’ve had a lot of people call for reservations we’ve denied hundreds of people we just can’t fit everyone so we expect a really great crowd,” Cubby’s manager, Jeremy Deutsch said.
