What does it take to become an extreme huntress? Here is a Central Oregon candidate for the international Extreme Huntress competition.

Several years ago I interviewed Randy Yow, a Central Oregonian hunter as he launched his television series. His show Extreme Desire, has done very well. I was curious about his cutlery selections, since Randy processes many big game animals every years. Here are some of his knife choices.
Recently, I learned Randy’s wife Candy, a co-host on the program, has qualified for the semi finals of the Extreme Huntress competition. Winners will go on to compete in a seven-day hunting competition in Texas, where they will be tested over all aspects of hunting. Here’s Candy’s story:

My name is Candy Yow and I am from Central Oregon. I live to hunt and spend time with my family in the outdoors, hoping they learn to love, preserve and enjoy God’s beautiful backcountry and wildlife. Remembering to respect and appreciate what we could so easily take for granted.
Extreme hunting is what I do : It is not about the kill, it is about the hunt. The challenge of me against nature. The hard work and desire it takes to find, stalk and hopefully harvest the animal of choice. I would not hunt if it meant driving out to a private field and shooting an animal.
I believe unconditionally in fair chase, backcountry, Do-It-Yourself, HONEST hunting.
To be an Extreme Huntress you must crave it, you must dream it and you must be willing to do almost anything to achieve it. I will honestly say there are few people who love, appreciate and respect the animals more than me. The gratefulness that overcomes me when I do harvest an animal is more than words can describe, as I wipe away tears of joy, pain and usually exhaustion. I thank God for each and every one of them.

Extreme commitment is what I have: I believe with this lifestyle it is our duty to be involved in conservation and do all we can to preserve it for others. I am honored to be a member of the National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Oregon Hunters Association, and numerous other organizations that preserve our heritage.
I am fortunate t o be a part of the Field Staff for Prois Hunting and Field Apparel and to be involved in the local Women on Target. I write a column for Lady Hunter and several other publications. I started the N.W. Ladies Hunting Camp to teach women the basics and safety of hunting and use that as a platform for hunting education.
I feel a profound personal conviction to stand up for women in the hunting industry against accusations and threats from those who are misinformed or uninformed about the realities of hunting. More than anything, I am dedicated to standing firm in my beliefs about hunting, which are founded by my belief in God’s word: “Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.” (Genesis 27-3.)
This is what I live: I get to see the sunrise over the mountains. Cross the frozen river at daylight chasing a mule deer buck. Hear elk bugle only a few feet away. Feel my heart pound as I gain on a bear in the thick brush. Listen to the water gurgle down a lonely mountain stream and melt into the campfire after a long day of hunting. I get to live this, love this and be this. I am blessed.
