Mueller reportedly prepping charges against more Russians – New York Post
Special counsel Robert Mueller may lodge criminal charges against another batch of Russians for interfering in the US election — targeting those who hacked and leaked information from Democrats, NBC News reported Thursday.
The expected new charges would rely on intelligence gathered by the CIA, the FBI, the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, the network reported, citing sources.
The charges could include violations of laws on conspiracy, election law and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the sources said.
One US official told NBC the charges could come in the next few weeks or even months.
The intelligence community concluded that Russians hacked the Democratic National Committee as well as Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta, and then leaked them through WikiLeaks.
Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the election and potential collusion with the Trump campaign — and indicted 13 Russians last month for trolling social media to sow discord among the American electorate.
Trump repeatedly denied there was collusion, and disparaged Mueller’s ongoing probe as “fake news” and “a witch hunt.”

Apple sees Samsung’s familiar, but modestly updated Galaxy S9, and raises it, by a lot.
Yes, it appears that Apple’s 2018 iPhone plans include the biggest (literally) iPhone ever. Alongside an updated iPhone X (which could come in gold), the Cupertino-based company is also going to launch a cheaper, more-affordable iPhone, as well as a 6.5-inch behemoth.
While this giant iPhone is said to be similar in size to the iPhone 8 Plus (6.2 x 3.1 x 0.3 inches), it will offer that larger screen thanks to its smaller bezels, using the iPhone X’s design. This news comes from a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, whose reporting has been proven as reliable over many years.
Apple is looking to ship this big-screen iPhone with an OLED display, keeping this product as high-end as the iPhone X, and probably carrying a higher price. Prototypes have included displays that measure 1242 x 2688 pixels, larger than the iPhone X’s 1125 x 2436-pixel panel.
More From Tom’s Guide
The super-sized iPhone (called D33 internally at Apple) could provide enough space for a split-screen mode, according to Gurman, but there’s no signs that Apple plans to offer this feature on the iPhone, as it’s currently iPad-only. This model will also include Face ID.
Apple’s updated iPhone X is internally called the D32, and it will feature an A12 processor, which will also power the 6.5-inch iPhone. Both of these phones will feature stainless steel edges, and there is a possibility Apple will add a gold color option for both of these pricier iPhones.
The more affordable iPhone (which doesn’t seem to have a codename) will look like the iPhone X, but feature a less-expensive LCD panel. It’s suggested that this model is being made because consumers didn’t take to the iPhone 8 because it looks too much like older models, and not the futuristic iPhone X.
While this handset’s face will look like the future, its rear will remind you of Apple’s past, with aluminum edges and a glass back, reminiscent of the iPhone 8. This model will also off an edge-to-edge screen and Face ID, and not include Touch ID.
If you’ve been waiting for a dual-SIM card-capable iPhone, Apple might finally provide it with the 6.5-inch model. This feature is meant for those who travel more often and don’t want to switch out cards when they move across borders.
Apple may be prepping its biggest iPhone ever – CNET

An even bigger version of the iPhone X may be on the way in 2018.
Sarah Tew/CNETApple’s 2018 iPhone lineup may literally be its biggest ever. According to Bloomberg in a Monday report, Apple is designing what would be its largest iPhone ever, an upgraded edition of 2017’s iPhone X and a cheaper iPhone that would keep the iPhone X design while making concessions for a lower price.
Citing “people familiar with the products” who spoke anonymously, Bloomberg says Apple is running production tests with suppliers involving the three new iPhone models. Previous rumors have pointed to the possible existence of three 2018 iPhone models, but this latest report includes many details about the specs and improvements that might be on the way.
The largest of the three would have a screen close to 6.5 inches packed into a body that’s about the size of the current iPhone 8 Plus, made possible using the same fullscreen design of the current iPhone X. Other specs Bloomberg expects in this alleged iPhone include:
- A screen resolution of 1,242 by 2,688 pixels.
- An OLED display, similar to what the current iPhone X has.
- Face ID scanner.
- An A12 processor.

The upgraded edition of the current iPhone X is also expected to have the A12 processor, and Bloomberg says Apple is considering a gold color option for both high-end phones. The current iPhone X is available in silver or space gray. Other additions expected for both phones include:
- iOS 12.
- Upgraded augmented reality capabilities.
- Deeper integration of the Siri assistant.
- Animojis in FaceTime.
The third iPhone will still have an iPhone X-like design, but is aiming for a lower price by including an LCD display, aluminum edges and a glass back similar to the current iPhone 8. It would not include stainless steel as the iPhone X does. And according to a January report from KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, this cheaper iPhone would have a 6.1-inch screen and not include the 3D Touch feature included with most new Apple phones since the iPhone 6S.
Apple also may be considering a dual-SIM card option in some markets for the larger model to make swapping carriers easier, but the report says the company might also wait for E-SIM technology to be embraced by carriers. Apple has been offering a version of E-SIM technology in its iPad lineup since 2014, which lets customers switch their carrier from the device instead of switching out SIM cards.

Apple said to be prepping high-end over-ear headphones – CNET
Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that’s taken over our lives.

This fine logo on over-the-ear headphones? Who could resist?
James Martin/CNETAre you happy with your AirPods?
Or do you prefer not sticking things inside your ears, but fear Beats headphones aren’t quite up to your exalted standards?
Rumor has it that Apple might be thinking of you.
According to KGI Securities analyst and regular Apple commentator Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is creating over-the-ear headphones for release this year.
In an investors note seen by Apple Insider, Kuo claims these headphones will be high-end and all new.
Might this mean that Apple will create headphones with its own branding, rather than that of its Beats subsidiary?
Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
This would be a moving, yet perhaps logical development. With the launch of the HomePod, Apple has squarely emphasized its audio credentials.
AirPods — which are said to get their second iteration this year — have also been widely praised.
Moreover, some believe that the Beats brand is all branding and insufficient audio expertise.
There’s something about over-the-ear headphones that promises a more enclosed audio perfection. Why wouldn’t Apple, then, try to enter the high-end headphones market?
Of course, this allows us to speculate how much Apple might charge for such an allegedly sophisticated item.

Jennifer Lawrence, Catt Sadler Prepping #MeToo, Time’s Up … – Hollywood Reporter
A source tells The Hollywood Reporter that the activist actress and anchor are working on a series project inspired by #MeToo, Time’s Up and gender wage gap conversations in Hollywood with documentary filmmaker Stephanie Soechtig.

The #MeToo movement is moving to the small screen.
During a stop at women’s workspace The Wing in New York City on Friday, Jennifer Lawrence — speaking to The Wing co-founder Audrey Gelman promoting her new film for 20th Century Fox — let it slip that she has partnered with former E! News anchor Catt Sadler on a series project. When asked to elaborate, the Red Sparrow star declined further comment, offering only, “I wasn’t supposed to announce that but I am.”
Sadler did not respond to requests for comment, but The Hollywood Reporter did track down sources with knowledge about what the two are plotting. THR has reached out to Lawrence’s rep.
One source says Lawrence and Sadler are developing a series inspired by #MeToo, Time’s Up and gender wage gap conversations in Hollywood. Further, the source continued that the pair are looking to take a deep dive into issues facing women today and have brought Stephanie Soechtig into the mix to direct. Soechtig is a documentary director known for exploring America’s gun violence epidemic and its problem with obesity on such films as Under the Gun and Fed Up. Gun was narrated by Katie Couric.
The team is looking to fast track the docu-series once they secure a distributor or formally partner with a production company.
When THR caught up with Sadler in January, the veteran entertainment anchor mentioned that the two had become close. “Jennifer Lawrence has become a friend of mine — really, a hero of mine,” Sadler told THR, during an interview discussing her exit from E! after discovering she made far less money than her male colleague Jason Kennedy. “Long before my own experiences, her voice has been an empowering one and one I’ve always admired. To have her in my corner is hard to put into words, to be honest.”
Sadler did mention as she moved forward in her career, she was looking to branch out from delivering pop culture news, and that could include a documentary-style project. “In this weird sense, I feel like I have an obligation to do work and represent the many voices who don’t have an audience. Between #MeToo, Time’s Up and the general climate right now, I would prefer to use my voice in a way that could create content that has never been made before,” she said at the time. But she’s not turning her back on her resume completely. Up next, she’ll team with Vanity Fair’s Mike Hogan to host the mag’s livestream from the carpet outside its iconic Vanity Fair Oscar party on March 4.
Lawrence, meanwhile, has been an outspoken voice in the fight for equal pay in Hollywood. She penned an essay for Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner’s Lenny in 2015, addressing her own battles with making equal money to her male co-stars. “When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself,” she wrote. “I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early.”
During an appearance at Milk Studios in December while receiving the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at THR’s Women in Entertainment breakfast, Lawrence signaled that she had more work to do. “It’s not easy to speak out. It’s not easy to face criticism on a global scale. But the fact is I have been given a platform, and if I don’t use it, then I don’t deserve it,” the actress said.
Prepping for impeachment: Here’s what Greitens and lawmakers face in the coming days – STLtoday.com
JEFFERSON CITY • The process of deciding whether to impeach scandal-plagued Gov. Eric Greitens will begin as early as Monday in the Missouri House of Representatives.
House Speaker Todd Richardson, R-Poplar Bluff, spent Thursday and Friday reviewing which members of the Legislature’s lower chamber would be named to a special committee to investigate the charges against the embattled chief executive.
Among those expected to sit on the panel is Rep. Jay Barnes, R-Jefferson City, who has experience as a litigator and is term-limited after this year. Others could include Rep. Robert Cornejo, R-St. Peters.
Greitens was indicted and booked Thursday on a felony invasion of privacy charge for allegedly transmitting a non-consensual photo of a partly nude lover in March 2015.
The revelations, which have been dogging the governor for more than a month, have triggered a cascade of calls for him to resign. The governor, however, has vowed to fight the charges.
Under the impeachment process, a member of the House must file a resolution calling for an investigation.
That resolution is then referred to a committee, which will investigate and decide whether to bring articles of impeachment to the full House.
Richardson signaled in a statement Thursday that he was launching the process.
“We will begin the process of tasking a group of legislators to investigate these serious charges,” the speaker noted in a joint statement with two of his top leaders in the House.
Richardson has support in his decision from his counterpart across the Capitol Rotunda, Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard, R-Joplin.
“As a former speaker myself, I understand an investigation conducted by the Missouri House of Representatives is necessary under these serious circumstances,” Richard said Friday.
Greitens’ attorney, Edward Dowd, also expressed support for handling the matter through a special committee.
“We welcome reviewing this issue with the independent, bipartisan committee of the Missouri House of Representatives,” Dowd said. “We will work with the committee. We will be deposing witnesses and will be happy to share information with you with the court’s permission.”
It remained unclear Friday whether Greitens would agree to appear before the panel.
Depending on the outcome of the hearings, the committee could then advance articles of impeachment to the full House for a vote, in which the 163-member body — minus the five seats that are vacant — would serve as a jury.
If a majority of House members support impeachment, the matter would then go to the state Senate.
In the Senate, members would select seven judges to conduct a trial. If five of those judges concur that the governor is guilty, the governor would be removed from office and the lieutenant governor would become governor for the remainder of the term, which runs until January 2021.

Mike Parson, a Republican, former senator and county sheriff from Bolivar, has not publicly commented on the scandal.
Some members of the Legislature remain hopeful that Greitens will resign, allowing the House and Senate to return to the business of approving bills and working on the budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
Rep. Jean Evans, R-Manchester, said a group of lawmakers was circulating a petition calling on Greitens to step down. She said she had not decided whether she would add her name to the list, but said the saga was increasingly distracting.
“It’s not people gossiping in the hallways,” Evans said. “It’s legitimate time constraints.”
When the House does convene a committee to investigate Greitens — the first step in the impeachment process — that will take some of the Legislature’s best minds away from other state business, she said.
“There’s only so much bandwidth that we have,” Evans said.
As an example of the distraction, Evans said she was contacted by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office on Thursday, seeking to speak with her. She said she spent a good portion of her day thinking about the request, but ultimately did not meet with prosecutors because “by the time I hit St. Louis County, the governor had been arrested.”
Greitens was elected in November 2016, winning 51 percent of the vote to defeat former Attorney General Chris Koster. As part of his campaign, Greitens touted family values.

CC Sabathia prepping for Year 18: The changeup feels good – New York Post
TAMPA — The changeup felt good and a couple of sliders irked him.
Welcome to CC Sabathia’s initial experience of live batting practice, which took place on Field 2 of George M. Steinbrenner Field on Thursday morning.
“This is the first time facing hitters and seeing how your pitches are doing,’’ said Sabathia, who is preparing for his 18th big league season. “I feel good. No problems health-wise and I look forward to getting back out there in a couple of days.”
When Sabathia made the conversion from power pitcher to more of a finesse hurler, the changeup was a big part of the process.
“The changeup felt good and it has not been really good in my bullpens, but today it was good so that is encouraging,’’ said Sabathia, who faced Ronald Torreyes, Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks.
Two misbehaving sliders that bounced in the dirt annoyed Sabathia, who said he will throw a bullpen session and a simulated game next. He didn’t know when he would work an exhibition tilt.
“Not yet. I am going to talk to Larry [Rothschild] and go over the schedule,’’ Sabathia said of the Yankees’ pitching coach.
Sabathia has been through enough spring trainings to know what it takes to be ready when the season opens, and it mainly centers around avoiding a physical problem under the palm trees.
“For me it’s just staying healthy and being out there,” Sabathia said. “The more reps I get, everything starts to come back.’’
In an effort to get more off days into the 2018 schedule, position players reported shortly after pitchers and catchers. That has provided a different vibe in camp.
“This is quick, usually when the players get here we had a week. This is weird starting [Friday],’’ Sabathia said of the exhibition season opener against the Tigers at home four days after the first full-squad workout this past Monday. “It’s kind of weird getting started so quick.”
Apple Inc. Rumored to Be Prepping iPhone SE Upgrade With 4.2-Inch Screen – Motley Fool
According to a rumor from Chinese website QQ, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to launch a successor to its lowest-end iPhone — the iPhone SE — in June at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event.
The device, QQ reports, will incorporate Apple’s A10 applications processor, which first debuted in the company’s iPhone 7 series smartphones in September 2016. The current iPhone SE uses Apple’s less-advanced A9 processor.

Apple is also likely to incorporate other hardware upgrades, such as a faster cellular modem and better cameras. QQ claims that the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the device will be upgraded to the second-generation version that first debuted with the iPhone 6s in September 2015.
The most interesting bit in this report, though, is that the display of this upgraded iPhone SE will get bigger, measuring 4.2 inches along the diagonal, up from just 4 inches. This display, QQ claims, will also have a higher resolution — a natural consequence of making the screen bigger while maintaining roughly the same sharpness.
Although 9to5Mac calls this report “sketchy” and even says that the rumored screen size increase “makes no sense at all,” I think it makes perfect sense. Here’s why.
Bigger is better
One of the main selling points of the iPhone SE when it was introduced in March of 2016 was that it was significantly more compact than the company’s flagship iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models. Some customers simply preferred smaller smartphones and the iPhone SE was a way to get those customers who may have been stubbornly holding onto their iPhone 5/5c/5s devices to finally upgrade.
However, another draw of the device — and I think one that became more important over time — was that it is quite affordable. Today the entry-level iPhone SE costs just $349. The iPhone SE allowed Apple to compete at price points that it previously didn’t, something that’s especially important in large, developing markets like India.
Over the long term, I think Apple will continue to evolve the iPhone SE series of smartphones to even more effectively capture share in markets where the company’s ultra-expensive flagship iPhone models simply can’t gain much traction.
To that end, considering the continued shift in consumer preferences to larger-screen smartphones, it makes sense for Apple to make the display on the next-generation iPhone SE a little bit bigger. Doing so could help to boost sales, as obvious form factor and display size changes are likely more interesting selling points to customers than upgraded internals.
Additionally, the screen-to-body ratio of the iPhone SE is quite low, thanks to the gigantic bezels on the device (particularly on the top and bottom of the phone). I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple reworked the design of the new iPhone SE to fit in roughly the same physical footprint as the current iPhone SE by shrinking the bezels.
All told, an iPhone SE successor with better internals, a bigger screen, and possibly a more attractive design could be a great way for Apple to try to boost its smartphone market share, especially in emerging markets.
