“Tuesday, the thing is not to think about it,” Yabusele said Saturday afternoon. “We just have to go on the court and do what we do every day on the practice court – working, doing the same things – and everything is going to go through (fine). We’ve just got to be focused, try to make as little mistakes as possible, and compete.”

Speaking for himself, Yabusele told Celtics.com that he believes he has made progress in those areas since the team’s first preseason game back on Oct. 2.

“I really think I got better every game, and the confidence is better, too,” he said. “I’m just trying to get back on my level and try to help the team and just try to give my best every time I step on the court and give everything I have.”

Progress is good, and the Celtics need more of it from all of their rookies as they approach Tuesday night. That’s because the jitters of Opening Night are beginning to creep in.

As the 19-year-old Tatum stated, “I’m getting anxious.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Nearly 3,000 athletes will descend on downtown Louisville for Sunday’s grueling IronMan competition. 

On Friday, many the athletes were at IronMan Village on the waterfront as they completed the registration process, got their bikes tuned up and even enjoyed a last-minute massage. 

Competitors in must complete a 2.4-mile swim in the Ohio River, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run through Louisville and its surrounding areas. The bike course takes athletes out of Louisville, toward Oldham and Henry counties and into La Grange.

The running course is flat and passes the University of Louisville campus and Churchill Downs before finishing at Fourth Street Live!

Timmy Gallagher, an IronMan athlete who has been training hard for the past year, told us what motivates him. 

“It’s a sense of you’re part of something bigger,” Gallagher said. “And you’re pushing boundaries of yourself, and you’re sharing that will all the other athletes, which I think really is what life is about. That’s why I do it.”

Weather could play a major part of the race this year. As of Friday evening, the WDRB Weather Team says showers and thunderstorms are possible on Sunday in the late morning and mid-afternoon.

“If it rains on the bike, you just have to go a little slower, be a little more cautious and watch other people,” athlete Stewart Mickler said.

“We’re always watching for extreme weather,” Dr. Ryan Modlinski said. “It might rain and thunderstorm, and lightning storms might have to precipitate us to clear the course for a short period of time or runners might have to run through rain and puddles.”

There will also be a Mass Casualty Incident Bus on site and equipment placed throughout the venue in case of emergencies, according to Louisville Metro EMS.

A number of streets will be shut down on the day of the competition. On Sunday from 5 a.m to 6:30 p.m, Witherspoon from Preston Street to Bingham Way will be shut down.

River Road from Third Street to the westbound I-64 ramp will also be blocked until 6:30 p.m. as will River Road from Preston to Witherspoon Street.

Traffic will be allowed to access River Road Sunday morning after the bike ride is complete. The eastbound lanes of River Road are expected to open around 1 p.m.

Remodeler Tyler Grace is a stickler for organized and clean job sites, so it’s no wonder he uses that same philosophy on demolitions. Grace follows a few basic rules for a successful demolition: Have a plan, protect the home, work methodically, and keep everything clean. Taking meticulous care earns him accolades from his clients and makes putting the space back together easier, saving time and money overall. His process for demolishing a kitchen, detailed in FHB #271, isn’t just for pros. Homeowners can use his process to save some cash they can pocket or reinvest into their home upgrade.

Before the demolition begins, Grace puts things in place to protect the rest of the house and its occupants. Dust and debris are unavoidable, but they are manageable.

Flooring—especially hardwood flooring—is expensive and needs protection. At a minimum, you’ll want to protect the floor all the way from the room getting demoed to the door you’ll use to get to the dumpster. That way, any debris that gets stuck to your shoes won’t get ground into carpets or scuff wood or tile. As durable as hardwood flooring is, heavy-duty tape can make a mess of the finish. To protect the finish, put delicate-surface tape around the perimeter of the room first. This tape removes easily without marring the finish, and heavy-duty tape sticks to it just fine. After the delicate-surface tape is in, you can tape heavy-duty paper like Ram Board to it. For stair treads, try something like Econo Runner, which has a non-slip surface that holds it in place and can be taken up at the end of each day and reused.

Confining dust to the area being demolished is important—especially if someone is living in the house during the demo. Temporary dust walls are easy to install. Grace uses plastic sheeting held in place with telescoping poles and sealed around the perimeter with tape. Plastic can also be taped right over doors and windows to prevent dust from escaping the work zone.

Temporary dust walls keep dust from escaping a work site, but you still need a door to get in and out. Some folks just cut a slit for a door and close it up with tape, which isn’t all that secure. Zippers are a better solution. ZipWall zippers adhere right to the plastic sheeting of a dust wall. Then you unzip the zipper, slit the plastic down the zipper’s length using the included tool, and presto—you’ve got a door. Quick tip: If you go through the trouble of buying the zippers, don’t just slit the plastic with a utility knife; the edges of the cut plastic will get stuck in the zipper and cause you a world of frustration.

For extra insurance against dust escaping into the rest of the house, it’s a good idea to create negative pressure in the workspace. You can achieve this by installing a box fan in a window, but that just blows the dust outside, making it everybody’s problem (if you’ve seen American Wedding, you get the picture). A better alternative is to create that negative pressure using an air scrubber, which filters the air before pumping it outside. To create negative pressure with the scrubber, seal a piece of cardboard to an open window, cut a hole the size of the scrubber’s exhaust hose in the cardboard, and run the hose through the hole. You’ll create negative pressure in the space, scrub the air in the space clean, and exhaust clean air outside.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to send a new, American-trained and supplied helicopter unit to battle along its southern border with Yemen, in what promises to be a new escalation in the kingdom’s two-year-old war with Houthi rebels.

The deployment, slated for later this year, also represents an expansion of the Saudi Arabian National Guard, which for a century has been tasked primarily with protecting the royal family, guarding oil facilities, and providing security for the cities of Mecca and Medina.

Saudi Arabia has already made a $25 billion investment in American-made attack helicopters for the force, which comes with an intensive training program carried out by U.S. Army pilots. The guard is readying its first aviation brigade and will have two more ready to fly by 2023. Riyadh is also embarking on a $1.8 billion building spree, constructing three new bases to house the units, said Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, the U.S. Army’s program manager for the Saudi Arabian National Guard.

The move comes amid continued attacks on the Saudi border by Yemeni Houthi rebels. While the original deal for the new helicopters was made in 2010 before the Saudi-led war in Yemen began in 2015, U.S. officials say the Houthi border raids and rocket attacks have unnerved Riyadh.

A Saudi-led coalition has been fighting to dislodge the rebels from the capital of Sanaa for over two years after they seized control of the government.

The attacks have come in response to the continued airstrikes by Saudi jets — refueled in the air by American planes — pounding Houthi positions in Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition has stoked international outrage by killing hundreds of civilians in errant airstrikes, and the rebels have responded by pushing the fight over the border, attacking Saudi border outposts and launching missiles into villages.

For the Saudis, the new deployment is intended to stop at the border. “It’s border security for them, and they don’t want to go too far beyond that,” said a U.S. defense official.

The Saudi Embassy did not respond to a request for comment.

The Saudi army has long had a large fleet of U.S.-made attack helicopters and aircraft, but the purchase of Apaches and AH-6is for the Guard is significant, given the separation between the two military forces.

The National Guard — also known as the White Army — reports directly to the king, as opposed to the Saudi armed forces, which fall under the Ministry of Defense. The ranks of the guard are drawn primarily from two tribes loyal to the House of Saud.

But the 2010 deal with Washington added significant teeth to the guard’s capabilities. The $25 billion package included 36 AH-64E Apaches, 36 AH-6i “Little Birds,” 72 Sikorsky UH-60M Blackhawks, and other helicopters and equipment. The announcement from the Pentagon said that the helicopters would be used by the guard for protecting the country’s “borders and oil infrastructure.”

The Saudis have long used the Apaches in Yemen, and the kingdom’s military is one of a handful in the world cleared to operate the advanced attack helicopter.

American military officials have long expressed concern over the ability of Saudi pilots to identify targets and avoid civilian casualties, however. In one recent example of mistaken identity, a Saudi Apache helicopter shot up a boat full of migrants in March, killing more than 40 people.

Answer: There are lots of things that you can do to help your landscape look better and keep your plants healthier during the winter, but let’s focus on the things you may need to do to prevent damage in your landscape or injury to your plants.

One of the most important things to give your attention to this fall is your irrigation system. Irrigation system: Unfasten any hoses that are hooked to faucets, especially faucets that are attached to your home. Drain any remaining water from your hoses, coil them and put them in a protected place for the winter. Drip irrigation equipment should also be collected and stored in a protected area. If you water with a built-in sprinkler system you’ll need to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for winterizing the system. Taking the time to do this in the fall prevents costly and inconvenient repairs in the spring.

Trees are a priority: Another priority in your yard is your trees. They’re the most expensive plant in your landscape, and the backbone of your design. Most trees just need a deep soak when you’re ready to put your watering system to bed, but there are some trees that need a little special attention.

Evergreen trees and shrubs will need a last slow, deep soak in late autumn so that they enter winter well-hydrated before the ground freezes. Thanksgiving week is a good time to do this. You’ll need to use a hose or sprinkler to do this if there hasn’t been plenty of rain or snow. Make sure you water the entire root zone and don’t forget to unhook your hose when you’re done!

Don’t Forget the Lawn: Give your lawn an application of quick-release nitrogen in late fall and continue to mow your lawn until late October or early November. If you’re using a mulching mower, this is also a great way to take care of those autumn leaves that you’d otherwise need to rake up. Once you’re ready to put your lawn mower away for the season, make your last mowing shorter than usual; about two inches is a good height. HUNCHUN, China – Americans buying seafood for dinner may inadvertently have subsidized the North Korean government as it builds its nuclear weapons program, an Associated Press investigation has found. Their purchases may also have supported forced labor.

At a time when North Korea is banned from selling almost anything, the country is sending tens of thousands of workers worldwide to bring in an estimated $200 million to $500 million a year. That could account for a sizable portion of North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs, which South Korea says have cost more than $1 billion.

While North Korean workers have been documented overseas, the AP investigation reveals that some products they make go to the United States. AP also tracked products made by North Korean workers to Canada, Germany and elsewhere in the European Union.

In response to the investigation, Senate leaders said Wednesday that the U.S. needs to keep products made by North Koreans out and get China to refuse to hire North Korean workers.

“The (Trump) administration needs to ramp up the pressure on China to crack down on trade with North Korea across the board,” said top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer.

At Chinese factories, North Korean workers aren’t allowed to leave their compounds without permission, and must step from housing to factories in pairs or groups, with North Korean minders. They receive a fraction of their salaries, while the rest — as much as 70 percent — is taken by the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s government.

John Connelly, president of the National Fisheries Institute, urged its 300 members, including the largest seafood importers in the U.S., to “ensure that wages go to the workers, and are not siphoned off to support a dangerous dictator.”

Besides seafood, AP found North Korean laborers making wood flooring and sewing garments in Chinese factories. Those industries also export to the U.S., but AP did not track specific shipments except for seafood.

American companies aren’t allowed to import products made by North Korean workers anywhere in the world, and companies doing business with them could face criminal charges for using North Korean workers or materially benefiting from their work. (The AP employs a small number of support staff in its Pyongyang bureau under a waiver granted by the U.S. government to allow the flow of news and information.)

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, responsible for enforcing the law, did not respond to requests for comment.

“This is a state-sponsored scheme to export folks who are in bonded labor,” said Luis CdeBaca, former U.S. ambassador for human trafficking issues. “It’s supporting a repressive regime.”

Western companies involved that responded to AP said forced labor and potential support for North Korea was unacceptable in their supply chains. They said they’d investigate, and some said they’d already cut off ties with suppliers.

Meanwhile, as many as 100,000 North Koreans continue to work in construction in the Gulf states, shipbuilding in Poland, logging in Russia and on fishing boats in Uruguay. New U.N. sanctions bar countries from expanding their North Korean workforce. Despite the pay and restrictions, the jobs abroad are highly coveted among North Koreans.

Roughly 3,000 North Koreans are believed to work in Hunchun, a Chinese industrial hub near the North Korean and Russian borders.

At some factories, laborers work hunched over tables as North Korean political slogans blasted from loudspeakers. When a reporter approached a group of North Koreans — women in tight, bright polyester clothes preparing a meal at a garment factory — one confirmed that she and some others were from Pyongyang, the North Korean capital. Then a minder arrived, ordering: “Don’t talk to him!”

It’s unknown what conditions are like in every factory, but AP reporters saw North Korean laborers living and working in several facilities, including joint venture Hunchun Dongyang Seafood Industry & Trade Co. Ltd. & Hunchun Pagoda Industry Co. Ltd., distributed globally by Ocean One Enterprise; Yantai Dachen Hunchun Seafood Products, and Yanbian Shenghai Industry & Trade Co. Ltd.

They’re getting their seafood from China, Russia and the U.S.

Despite AP seeing North Korean workers, Hunchun Dongyang’s manager Zhu Qizhen denied that they hire them and refused to give details. The other Chinese companies didn’t comment.

Shipping records show more than 100 cargo containers of seafood were sent to the U.S. and Canada this year from the factories where North Koreans were working in China, including packages of snow crab, salmon fillets and squid rings.

One importer, The Fishin’ Company in Munhall, Penn., said it cut ties with Hunchun processors and got its last shipment this summer. Seafood can remain in the supply chain for more than a year.

Often the fish arrives in generic packaging. But some were already branded in China with familiar names like Walmart or Sea Queen, which is sold exclusively at ALDI supermarkets. There’s no way to say where a particular package ends up, nor what percentage of a factory’s products wind up in the U.S.

Walmart spokeswoman Marilee McInnis said company officials banned their suppliers from getting seafood processed at a Hunchun plant a year ago after an audit revealed potential issues with migrant workers.

“Combating forced labor is a complex problem that no one company, industry, or government can tackle alone,” she said.

ALDI did not comment.

Some U.S. companies had indirect ties to North Korean laborers in Hunchun. Customs records indicate that Chicken of the Sea, owned by Thai Union, did business with sister companies of the Hunchun factories in another part of China. Thai Union said the sister company they do business with meets all of their fair labor standards, and should not be penalized just because they have the same owner.

Boxes at the factories also had markings from several major German supermarket chains and brands. REWE Group, which owns REWE markets and the Penny chain, said their contract has expired with Hunchun Dongyang. All the companies that responded said suppliers were forbidden to use forced labor. Shipments also went to two Canadian importers, Morgan Foods and Alliance Seafood, which did not respond to requests for comment about who processes their seafood in China.

As the late summer chill set in one evening, a dozen or so women from Hunchun Pagoda played volleyball in the quiet road in front of the compound’s gate.

A train horn blew. The women shouted to one another. A car with a foreigner drove by. One laughingly called out: “Bye-bye!”

At a time when North Korea is banned from selling almost anything, the country is sending tens of thousands of workers worldwide to bring in an estimated $200 million to $500 million a year. That could account for a sizable portion of North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs, which South Korea says have cost more than $1 billion.

While North Korean workers have been documented overseas, the AP investigation reveals that some products they make go to the United States. AP also tracked products made by North Korean workers to Canada, Germany and elsewhere in the European Union.

In response to the investigation, Senate leaders said Wednesday that the U.S. needs to keep products made by North Koreans out and get China to refuse to hire North Korean workers.

“The (Trump) administration needs to ramp up the pressure on China to crack down on trade with North Korea across the board,” said top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer.

At Chinese factories, North Korean workers aren’t allowed to leave their compounds without permission, and must step from housing to factories in pairs or groups, with North Korean minders. They receive a fraction of their salaries, while the rest — as much as 70 percent — is taken by the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s government.

John Connelly, president of the National Fisheries Institute, urged its 300 members, including the largest seafood importers in the U.S., to “ensure that wages go to the workers, and are not siphoned off to support a dangerous dictator.”

Besides seafood, AP found North Korean laborers making wood flooring and sewing garments in Chinese factories. Those industries also export to the U.S., but AP did not track specific shipments except for seafood.

American companies aren’t allowed to import products made by North Korean workers anywhere in the world, and companies doing business with them could face criminal charges for using North Korean workers or materially benefiting from their work. (The AP employs a small number of support staff in its Pyongyang bureau under a waiver granted by the U.S. government to allow the flow of news and information.)

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, responsible for enforcing the law, did not respond to requests for comment.

“This is a state-sponsored scheme to export folks who are in bonded labor,” said Luis CdeBaca, former U.S. ambassador for human trafficking issues. “It’s supporting a repressive regime.”

Western companies involved that responded to AP said forced labor and potential support for North Korea was unacceptable in their supply chains. They said they’d investigate, and some said they’d already cut off ties with suppliers.

Meanwhile, as many as 100,000 North Koreans continue to work in construction in the Gulf states, shipbuilding in Poland, logging in Russia and on fishing boats in Uruguay. New U.N. sanctions bar countries from expanding their North Korean workforce. Despite the pay and restrictions, the jobs abroad are highly coveted among North Koreans.

Roughly 3,000 North Koreans are believed to work in Hunchun, a Chinese industrial hub near the North Korean and Russian borders.

At some factories, laborers work hunched over tables as North Korean political slogans blasted from loudspeakers. When a reporter approached a group of North Koreans — women in tight, bright polyester clothes preparing a meal at a garment factory — one confirmed that she and some others were from Pyongyang, the North Korean capital. Then a minder arrived, ordering: “Don’t talk to him!”

It’s unknown what conditions are like in every factory, but AP reporters saw North Korean laborers living and working in several facilities, including joint venture Hunchun Dongyang Seafood Industry & Trade Co. Ltd. & Hunchun Pagoda Industry Co. Ltd., distributed globally by Ocean One Enterprise; Yantai Dachen Hunchun Seafood Products, and Yanbian Shenghai Industry & Trade Co. Ltd.

They’re getting their seafood from China, Russia and the U.S.

Despite AP seeing North Korean workers, Hunchun Dongyang’s manager Zhu Qizhen denied that they hire them and refused to give details. The other Chinese companies didn’t comment.

Shipping records show more than 100 cargo containers of seafood were sent to the U.S. and Canada this year from the factories where North Koreans were working in China, including packages of snow crab, salmon fillets and squid rings.

One importer, The Fishin’ Company in Munhall, Penn., said it cut ties with Hunchun processors and got its last shipment this summer. Seafood can remain in the supply chain for more than a year.

Often the fish arrives in generic packaging. But some were already branded in China with familiar names like Walmart or Sea Queen, which is sold exclusively at ALDI supermarkets. There’s no way to say where a particular package ends up, nor what percentage of a factory’s products wind up in the U.S.

Walmart spokeswoman Marilee McInnis said company officials banned their suppliers from getting seafood processed at a Hunchun plant a year ago after an audit revealed potential issues with migrant workers.

“Combating forced labor is a complex problem that no one company, industry, or government can tackle alone,” she said.

ALDI did not comment.

Some U.S. companies had indirect ties to North Korean laborers in Hunchun. Customs records indicate that Chicken of the Sea, owned by Thai Union, did business with sister companies of the Hunchun factories in another part of China. Thai Union said the sister company they do business with meets all of their fair labor standards, and should not be penalized just because they have the same owner.

Boxes at the factories also had markings from several major German supermarket chains and brands. REWE Group, which owns REWE markets and the Penny chain, said their contract has expired with Hunchun Dongyang. All the companies that responded said suppliers were forbidden to use forced labor. Shipments also went to two Canadian importers, Morgan Foods and Alliance Seafood, which did not respond to requests for comment about who processes their seafood in China.

As the late summer chill set in one evening, a dozen or so women from Hunchun Pagoda played volleyball in the quiet road in front of the compound’s gate.

A train horn blew. The women shouted to one another. A car with a foreigner drove by. One laughingly called out: “Bye-bye!”
