ANCHORAGE (KTUU) – The Anchorage Downtown Partnership along with other businesses are busy preparing for the Downtown Summer Solstice Festival Saturday.

4th Avenue from C Street to L Street will be closed down starting Saturday morning for the festival.

“All of downtown will be completely closed down and we will have everything from beer gardens, concert stages, we’ll have bubbles, kid zone, kid activities, we’re going to have a circus out here,” said Anchorage Downtown Partnership executive director Amanda Moser.

On top of all the things to do with kids, there are also a number of beer gardens and food trucks to enjoy.

“We treat it like Fur Rondy and Iditarod,” said Guy Conley, managing partner and chef at Fat Ptarmigan. “So it’s one of the biggest weekends of the year. We’re always staffed up. Extra dough, extra everything.”

“I’ve been prepping for a few months now,” said Karin Swanson, the sales and marketing manager at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown. “People just want to come down and enjoy the sun, fingers crossed it’ll stay sunny.”

For the first time at the festival, there will also be a sober garden.

“Society tells us we need to add alcohol to every event, and people are so used to meeting at bars or hanging out in the beer garden, but you don’t have to drink to find community,” said Tiffany Hall, executive director of Recover Alaska.

“With this Sober Garden, like so many of the other events we participate in throughout the year, we want to create a place where people can have a great time without feeling pressured to drink alcohol,” Hall said.

The event starts at noon Saturday and ends at 6 p.m. Moser recommends seeks parking at the EasyPark garages on 5th and 6th Avenues.

Miranda Lambert Prepping New Album For Fall Release – Wide Open Country

Miranda Lambert announced the fall release of her seventh major label album during an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times to promote today’s (June 21) all-women lineup at Country LakeShake Festival.

“I would call it old Miranda, but a Miranda at a whole new level, if that makes any sense,” she tells freelance journalist Tricia Despres. “It’s not going to be love song overload or anything like that. [Laughs] I made a career on being a rock ‘n’ roller, and I think fans are going to hear that throughout. And yeah, there is this vibe of being happy that goes through this album. I am really, really happy.”

Life has changed drastically for Lambert since she wrote the forlorn tunes for 2016’s The Weight of These Wings, released the year after her divorce from fellow country superstar Blake Shelton. She married New York City police officer Brendan McLoughlin in early 2019. The couple splits its time between the fast-paced Big Apple and the privacy of Lambert’s rural Tennessee farm.

A potential teaser of Lambert’s current sound came in early June via the CMA Fest debut of “Locomotive.” In an interview with the Tennessean, Lambert described the song as “total country punk-rock” and “a reflection of who I am right now.”

McKenzie County prepping for 61st annual fair – KXNet.com

Fair season is kicking off in North Dakota tomorrow. People were hard at work putting the finishing touches on for the 61st annual fair in Watford City.

The town has quintupled in size. In 2007, the population was just under 1400 and last year it reached over 6500.
And the fair has grown in size too.

“There are a lot more people in town that stay in town looking for something to do, some entertainment so we have tried to gear our fair more towards them. So we have a bigger carnival something other than the rodeo. We added the derby a few years ago trying to get a different segment of the community,” said Tim Nelson, president of McKenzie County Fair.

Getting different attractions is helping people get excited about the fair.

“Watching all the kids show their animals and get excited about all the things they’re going to be doing and learning about. Teaching them how to be ranchers and farmers that’s what I’m most excited to see,” said Trudi Skedsvold, Alexander resident.

“To let my child experience the kid rides and to see the animals there,” said Shari foster, Watford City resident.

“Just getting out of the house, just taking the kids there and doing some rides and the rodeo too that’ll be fun,” said Cody Wolf, Watford City resident.

“I’d say the food and the derby I know is Friday,” said Marissa Sheehan, Sidney, Montana resident.

Another big change made was switching the fair from July to June to make sure the carnival is in town right along with all the fair fun.

The fair is free and runs through Saturday.

Prepping Tradecraft: The Art of the Trade – AllOutdoor

Gross hematuria has the feature of levitra online sales repeated attack. 2. These herbs are then mixed in right proportions and brewed in strong tasting generika cialis tadalafil tea for the patient. Some people may not respitecaresa.org canada pharmacy viagra respond to insulin. It is also very typical for people who viagra professional 100mg have any reservations about taking medications, believe me, you won’t find an easier treatment out there.

As your list of prepping goods to attain continues to grow, negotiating is something you can begin to practice now. For many preppers, budgets are limited and acquiring even the most basic sets of supplies and equipment can be daunting, especially for families.

One way to overcome tight economic conditions is to learn the tradecraft of swapping or bartering. This can mean exchanging hard goods for hard goods or soft supplies in any mix that willing participants are agreeable to swapping. Vital skills can also be traded as well.

First you need to conduct an inventory of everything you can live without. At the same time, start jotting down critical items that you need. You may have seemingly innocuous stuff like several extra clay flower pots to get rid of, a couple redundant tool sets, a third chainsaw, or a couple unused bicycles in the garage.

Things that sell or trade well are baby clothes (in fact anything baby), so if you are done having children, it may be time to get rid of the baby stuff. Check every closet in the house, the attic, basement, and the garage. You may be amazed at just how much stuff you will find that you can do without.

Many preppers are highly skilled and have a huge range of talents to share. These may be mechanical as in automotive engine or auto care in general, or even small engine repair from lawn mowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, or anything that runs on gasoline. Maybe you are a bang-up carpenter who can remodel homes, build storage sheds, or add on another room. Could be you can even design and build a bugout cabin in the wilds. Be honest about what you can do.

You may have tech skills with the knowledge to repair or set up computers or systems at businesses or for private individual uses. Perhaps you are a nurse or medical practitioner and particularly under SHTF conditions you may be able to trade services for items or supplies you need.

Finally, what do you need? A gas powered generator? Maybe you need an ammunition reloading setup. This list can be endless, but the best bet is to aim for major big-ticket items rather than everyday supplies. Hardware and gear may be hard to come by later.

Learn to practice tradecraft. It is a vital skill when times get tough.

See Injured Daniel Craig Prepping To Return To Bond 25 Filming – Cinema Blend

It’s always sort of fun seeing celebrities getting into insane shape for various movie roles. However, when the celebrity is Daniel Craig getting fit for James Bond and it’s Daniel Craig getting fit for James Bond while recovering from an injury, the image is even cooler.

Excessive uses can result in muscle pain, affected hormonal balance. free samples viagra One day when we were sitting at the cafeteria I just sildenafil tablets 50mg tried to find out if everything was ok with the couple. Kamagra provides viagra pills from canada long lasting effect as compare to other contending drugs. Kamagra on the other hand can be bought online easily from the trusted low cost cialis suppliers. / Kamagra has offered successful and effective treatment of erectile dysfunction.

But don’t take it from me. Take a look at the James Bond official image of Daniel Craig getting back in the workout saddle following Craig’s ankle injury back in May…

Talk about swole goals. Daniel Craig, like fellow quinquagenarian Tom Cruise, is still crushing it out at the gym, even while injured. Honestly, that boot looks pretty serious in the James Bond official photo, but it’s nice to see that Daniel Craig is not sitting on his laurels while he recovers from his injury.

About a month ago, reports from the set of the still-untitled Bond 25 indicated the actor had hurt his ankle while filming a scene for the movie while on set in Jamaica. At the time the production schedule was put on hold while Daniel Craig figured out exactly what had gone wrong with his ankle.

During that time, the James Bond production was pretty transparent about the injury, noting that Daniel Craig would need to undergo ankle surgery – albeit “minor” surgery – after injuring his leg on set. Two weeks of recovery were expected to be needed before production to go back into full swing. The good news? Bond 25 is still expected to hit its release date in 2020! (And that’s even with that controlled explosion injury that happened once the film was back in production.)

Bond 25 has honestly been a long time coming, so hearing the flick is still on track even with this injury is very good news indeed. First and foremost, the last James Bond movie, Spectre, came out all the way back in 2015. Then, there was some question about whether or not Daniel Craig would even return to the role.

Finally, Daniel Craig signed on and all seemed well… but it wasn’t quite. There was another snafu with finding a director to stick with the film through production. At one point, Danny Boyle was signed on and left because of “creative differences.” Then, the movie allegedly went through a rewrite. Next, the injuries happened. So, clearly this hasn’t been the smoothest movie to come to fruition ever.

Now, Daniel Craig is back in the gym, the cast for the movie (including Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Rami Malek) is cemented, and things seem to be moving forward.

Daniel Craig’s workouts have been a big topic of conversation ahead of Bond 25. Reportedly, prior to filming, the actor was working out an absolutely insane amount in order to make sure his physique was at a peak. That reportedly even involved 12-hour workout sessions.

Instagram blows up meal prepping: The new TV dinner has created a food industry sector – Salon

The hashtag #mealprepping has been used more than half a million times on Instagram. That’s about the same as #chiapudding, another food trend that’s popular in the digital world, but more than #detoxing, which many like to brag about on social media. Most of the posts are of containers, symmetrically paired side by side, with different variations of the same food. Alternatively, there might be someone in front of a cutting board, with a colorful vegetable spread, and a caption explaining this week’s meal prep plan. These images are often colorful, aesthetically pleasing, and project “I’m healthy” through your iPhone screen. They reach peak popularity on Sundays, escorted by a final hashtag: #mealprepsunday.

Meal prepping is the act of preparing a week’s worth of meals by strategically reusing ingredients, chopping ingredients ahead of time, putting each meal in a separate box, and labeling them by both meal and day. Some meals will need to be cooked the day of, but the goal is to make eating as easy as possible. Sundays are logical days to #mealprep, but the activity does not have to eat up your entire day. The popular wellness blog The Kitchn publishes a meal prep power hour, suggesting 15 meals can be cooked up in just one hour. Apparently, it is possible. The origins of the movement are hard to nail down that has flourished behind kitchen doors and on Instagram today, but Google searches for “meal prep” only started in March 2013. Since then it has spiked notably, along with “meal prep meal ideas.”

It is Type A’s dream, but the movement #mealprep has spread like a grease fire to every variety of personality types. It has also led to the popularity of meal prep services and companies like Hello Fresh, Sakara Life, and Green Blender.

I first heard about meal prepping last year, a little late for a woman in her late twenties on Instagram. I had noticed that my energy levels were dipping late in the afternoon, and I had a nagging sense that my diet was a contributing factor. As a recovering untutored vegetarian who made very poor carb choices, I consulted a nutritionist. She gave me tips, one of which was to meal prep. I was intrigued by the idea at first. By purchasing and cooking meals for the week ahead, I was told I could save a considerable amount by not having to order takeout food or buy lunch at work. I would have a better grasp on my grocery budget — motivation in and of itself, and it would eliminate waste in my fridge. It also gave me a strange sense of control for my week.

Today, I’m on the spectrum when it comes to meal prepping, meaning I plan meals for the week in advance which influences my Sunday grocery list — but I don’t actually cook the meals, or prepare for them to make it easier the-day-of. And there is still usually one mid-week grocery stop. While it works for me, I envy the super organized folks with their weekly meals, but I do wonder this is just another soulless life hack.

Full-on meal preppers say it can be life-changing.

“By cooking and pre-planning all of your meals for the upcoming week, you can save a lot of time in addition to money,” Beverly Friedmann, a 30-year-old living in Brooklyn, tells Salon. “You’re usually thankful at the end of a long workday that you don’t have to cook (or cook every night), or make a last minute trip to the grocery store if you’ve run out of food.”

Friedmann says you also won’t be tempted by using an app to order food.

Jim Mumford is a 32-year-old food blogger of JimCooksFoodGood.com and has been meal prepping for the last ten years. Not just an early-adopter, Mumford’s been prepping since before it was a hashtag on Instagram. He said meal prepping has helped him lose 80 pounds.

“I shop and prep every Sunday,” he said. “I’ll make lunch kits (think salad greens, toppings, dressing) for the entire week.”

Mumford added that now that prepping as a father is a “total timesaver in the mornings.”

Sarah Grimaud, a Certified Holistic Health Coach, says she has noticed that her clients are already meal-prepping before they seek out her nutrition expertise, bringing to light just how popular it has become.

Advertisement:

“I always recommend meal prepping to my health coaching clients — though it’s so common now that many of them are already doing it,” Grimaud said. “One of the reasons I recommend it to my health coaching clients is because of the time and mental energy it saves you. You have enough to think about daily and are constantly making choices; meal prepping gives you a break.”

Grimaud added that it can keep people from experiencing what she calls “decision fatigue.” In a world where we have many choices, which has likely been a factor of the burn-out epidemic, not having to figure out dinner every night or lunch sounds like a dream. While I agree with Grimaud, it is hard not to cringe and think that capitalism is to blame for our rushed and time-saving society.

“Decision fatigue is the concept that your willpower is finite; eventually you’re going to get exhausted from making decision after decision and have less self-discipline,” Grimaud added. “Meal prepping is therefore a hero when you have a healthy living goal as less willpower is required.”

It is very rare that an at-home cooking trend becomes an Instagram phenomenon.Daniel Levine, a trends expert and keynote speaker, said he has been following the movement for some time. In his field, it is important to differentiate a fad from a trend, he explains. “A trend is something is something that has longer legs than a fad which comes and goes,” he says.

Meal prepping, according to Levine, is in between both worlds.

“From a fad perspective one thing that it is deriving is on Instagram people are posting photos of their preps,” he said. “The funny thing is that meal prepping is like showing off your glorified leftovers.”

“But it also makes sense in today’s world where everyone is so busy and it saves a lot of time,” he added. “In the 50s they had TV dinners, and today it’s the DIY culture.”

Expectant mothers typically have their mind set on how they want to give birth, down to the tiniest details. Some even arrive to the hospital and hand over a perfectly typed out birth plan to the nurses, midwives, or doctors so they can better understand the vision. But for various reasons, there’s always the possibility of a birth story going off the map — meaning, a completely different turn of events. And it’s vital that mothers prepare for this outcome, because at the end of the day, we don’t want Mom to feel disappointed in herself.

Sarah Clark, owner of The Dainty Pear (all things lifestyle, birth, travel, and family), was here to share ways to prepare for a different birth experience. And who better to take advice from than a doula and mother of five than Sarah herself? Exercising some of these methods will make for a smoother, more relaxed birthing process.

Relaxation Techniques: Here’s where you want to really think about what relaxes you! Is there a soundtrack that always gets you in the zone? A smell? Memory or photo? Think about it ahead of time, and bring those power tools with you in the event that you start feeling overwhelmed by sudden changes.

In the case of a failed epidural, a longer labor than expected, not being able to get to the hospital on time, or having to go into an emergency C-section, here are some specific ways to bring your body back into a calmer state:

  • With this first technique, you’re going to breathe in to the count of 4, and breathe out to the count of 8. The numbers don’t matter as much as the fact that you’re breathing out twice as long as you’re breathing in. This brings your heart rate down, helps to make sure you’re not hyperventilating, helps with oxygen flow, and keeps you out of fight or flight. This is a technique taught in HypnoBirthing, and it works well to calm you down even outside of a birthing situation!
  • The next technique is called square breathing. Breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, breathe out for 4 counts, and hold out for 4 counts. Repeat at least 4 times. Giving your mind something to focus on besides discomfort or intrusive thoughts can do wonders for anxiety, and it has similar physical effects as the other technique. Sarah’s e-book goes more in depth with other breathing techniques.
  • Last but not least, physical touch. Not everyone enjoys physical touch, which is fine! But for those who do, studies have shown that physical contact can help reduce anxiety by a lot. So, whether your birth partner offers a hand to hold, some light touch massage on your shoulders and arms, or plays with your hair, it can help those stress levels come down. And, it can release Oxycontin, which is also known as “The Love Hormone,” and can help move labor along as well.

Think Happy Thoughts: During labor, expectant mothers are allowed to feel scared, overwhelmed, or even have thoughts like, “I can’t do this.” It’s only natural. But it’s important to keep things as positive as possible. Remember the reward! Remember that even though it may feel like it, the pain won’t last forever. Try to think about all the sweet things that accompany a birth — if you’re having a baby girl, think about the cute bows waiting for you back at home. It’s simple, but can act as a helpful distraction from the pain and realign your focus.

Support Team: Whoever you decide to bring into the birthing room, it’s a good idea to let them know specific ways in which they can help you! Don’t be afraid to use your voice to speak up — it’s likely they want to know how to help! So clue your loved ones in on things you like and dislike, and even your birth preferences, before labor starts.

Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Best (With some Detours): Above all, Sarah wants you to remember you are strong. You are capable. And you can do this! Birth isn’t a new concept — it’s been happening for ages! And the human body is truly incredible. That being said, it’s easier said than done. Things can get a little tense or even scary, so remind yourself that you have chosen a competent team that you trust to take care of you and Baby. That’s why choosing your care providers is such a big deal! If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in your care, there are so many options out there. So don’t feel trapped — you can still switch providers and find one you’re more comfortable with.

Along with the relaxation techniques and amazing support team, try practicing positive affirmations — even if they seem silly! Building these exercises into your muscle memory can help bring you back to a good place when you use them during labor.

Head over to Sarah’s page http://www.thedaintypear.com/ for more on her personal birth stories, and discover how else you can prepare for the birthing day!

Get Into Golf: Prepping for Father’s Day – The Union of Grass Valley

There are still eight shopping days left before Father’s Day. Just enough time to find the perfect gift for the avid golfer in your life. Or, if someone near you needs a not-so-subtle hint, there is still time to place this column in front of an unsuspecting potential gift giver.

Because, today we will go through a helpful list of items for the golfing Father.

Of course, golf and fathers go together like peas and carrots. In fact, the final round of our country’s national golf championship (the United States Open) is always played on the third Sunday in June.

It is also interesting to note that several fathers and daughters/sons have played golf at the championship level. Jack Nicklaus’ sons Jackie and Gary are very good players; Jackie won the ‘North & South Event’ at Pinehurst (the championship of the Carolinas) and Gary qualified and played on the PGA Tour. PGA Tour & Senior player, Bruce Summerhayes’ daughter, Carrie, played a couple of years on the LPGA Tour.

On certain weeks you may also watch sons Bill Haas and Kevin Stadler on the PGA Tour and their father’s Jay Haas and Craig Stadler on the Champions Tour. Golf is a great game for fathers and we appreciate the positive role the game can have in the lives of families.

So, what do you buy for the patriarchal golfer in your life? I am here to help. Let’s start off with a few choices for any budget and we will graduate (which makes me think, these gifts will work for grads, too) to some of the higher end stuff for the father who has everything.

Gifts under $5

Tees – This may seem small, but everybody needs them and you can get a variety of colors or sizes for every personality. Classic white or natural wood stained tees work well for the traditional golfer, eco-friendly tees (made from a corn byproduct) for the green on the greens, or you might try some psychedelic, tie-dyed tees for the Jerry Garcia fans. (golftees.com)

Pocket Towels – Of course, golf equipment makes contact with dirt on a regular basis. Many golfers will place a towel on their golf bag and that is a reasonable solution, but the pocket towel travels with you. Tidy enough to nestle in your pocket, the towel is still large enough to handle problematic soil. (your local Pro Shop)

Gifts under $25

Golf Hat – You can never have too many T-shirts or too many golf/baseball hats. Collecting hats from different golf courses is also a popular “hobby.” Or, you may decide to go with the one that says “World’s Greatest Dad” on the front. (Check out the hats at nearby golf courses or visit zazzle.com for some Dad related caps)

Great Golf Book – Not the game improvement type, the interesting, lean your chair back for a couple of hours kind of book. This is a wonderful gift for the cerebral golfer. Try one of these titles; “The Match”, by Mark Frost. “The Legend of Bagger Vance”, by Pressfield, or “Miracle on the 17th Green”, by Patterson.

Transparent Grips – This is fun. You can put certain messages, team logos, college mascots, hundred dollar bills (well, a counterfeit one), underneath a clear putter grip. Every time he looks at it, he is reminded of your gift. Log on to Cthrugrips.com and choose your favorite. Order it online and have it installed at your favorite golf course.

Gifts under $100

Golf Sunglasses – Even tour players wear them. They can protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays and help you read those undulating greens. Certainly, a well chosen pair will also assist us with a goal of looking good on the course. A broad range of prices and styles exist, but you really can’t go wrong and one size really does fit all. (Oakley.com or MauiJim.com)

Golf Balls – OK, this might take a little bit or work on your part. On balance, the player and his golf ball are quite good friends. However, some fathers don’t have an allegiance to a specific type of ball. Do this — sneak out into the garage of the trunk of his car. Unzip the pocket and peer within. If the golf balls are all of the same brand and type, it is easy. Get more of the same. If you find veritable smorgasbord of golf balls, you have some options. Try Titleist DT, the Callaway SuperHot, or the Bridgestone E6. Golf balls will always be a welcome arrival.

If you shop now, most things could arrive on time from online sources and, of course, please support your local golf professionals. Have fun shopping.

Kennedy’s final day is June 15, but he will be taking paid time off most of next week. It is to be determined whether he will be taking any staff from UND with him when he becomes the next president of the University of Colorado system.

Kennedy is sitting down with Wynne during the next few days to review ongoing projects at the university. Kennedy said his administration also has devised a list of people that can help Wynne in his transition.

“If I can be of help next week, next month, next year or three years from now in advancing the University of North Dakota, I stand ready to respond however I can,” Kennedy said.

Wynne said his 15 years of experience at UND, as well as the help of Kennedy and other university vice presidents, will help make the transition smoother for him.

In Kennedy’s last official interview with local media, he and Wynne met with the Herald together via conference call Tuesday afternoon.

Wynne will meet with university vice presidents to get their input on moving forward, including deciding how often the vice presidents should meet as a group and how often they should meet with Wynne individually.

“I don’t think there will be any major changes in the way we move forward,” Wynne said. “I do want to give them the opportunity to meet with me one-on-one so that I can solicit their feedback.”

As a part of the agreement he made with North Dakota University System Chancellor Mark Hagerott, Wynne will be splitting his time between his duties as interim president and as dean of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He will maintain an office at the medical school and another in Twamley Hall, where the president’s office is located.

Wynne previously told the Herald he does not intend to continue in the president’s position full-time, but said Tuesday he would serve in the interim role for as long as necessary.

“I intend to approach the job with the intensity that you might expect, and I want to do the very best job I can for however long it takes,” he said. “I am not going to be a caretaker interim president, and we’re moving the agenda forward whether it’s three months, six months or a year.”

Kennedy said he feels good about the state of UND as he prepares to leave the president’s post after three years on the job.

The university has a strategic plan that has been “widely embraced by the campus, state and nation,” Kennedy said. The school also has a team of administrators in place that will help UND into the future.

Kennedy pointed to the 10 percentage point rise in the four-year graduation rate, increased construction on campus and growth in research dollars as among the university’s accomplishments over the past few years.

“There’s a lot of bright future for the University of North Dakota,” he said.

Wynne plans to continue work on UND’s five-year strategic plan. The plan has seven goals, including providing a strong undergraduate liberal arts foundation, increasing graduation and retention rates, working on ways to address enrollment numbers both online and on-campus, increasing research work, becoming a more inclusive campus, serving military students and engaging alumni.

“There’s already good momentum going forward. I see my role as assisting in that and helping to accelerate it even further if I can,” Wynne said. “This is a strategic plan that has priorities, goals and metrics associated with it, and that’s my kind of strategic plan.”

Kennedy said he believes UND is in a strong position financially. He added that higher education is changing and becoming more and more competitive, which means it is important for UND to have funds available to move forward.

“I am cautiously optimistic that budgetary wise and financially wise UND is in good shape,” he said.

As a first-generation college student, Kennedy said he is most satisfied with raising the graduation rates over the past few years. Helping students get a degree has been a driving factor for Kennedy and his wife, Debbie, he said.

UND already has a beautiful campus, but he anticipates that will grow in the years ahead, which will make UND a “magnetic draw” for students, he said.

Kennedy also is happy with the work UND has done in research, something he says is vital to the state and nation’s health.

Kennedy plans to return to visit UND periodically in the future to check in on the university and those who support it.

“In the end, it’s the people that you’ll come back for,” Kennedy said. “We have developed a lot of wonderful relationships here and coming back to check in with them and keep current is what will be most satisfying about a return trip.”
